Evidence Matching Process

  1. Examine crime scene evidence carefully
  2. Compare each sample to suspect samples
  3. Look for exact matches in all categories
  4. Eliminate suspects with non-matching evidence
  5. Only one suspect should match all evidence

Logic Case Tips

  • Note the time of the crime
  • Check alibis - who has a verified alibi?
  • Consider motive - who benefits?
  • Look for opportunities - who had access?
  • Eliminate impossible suspects first

Evidence Types Reference

Fiber Analysis

Fibers are identified by material (cotton, polyester, wool, nylon, silk) and color. Match fiber type AND color exactly.

Soil Analysis

Soil types include sandy loam, clay, silt, peat, and chalky soils. Soil from the crime scene must match suspect samples.

Powder Analysis

Common powders include baking soda, cornstarch, flour, salt, and sugar. Each has distinct properties.

Glass Analysis

Glass is identified by refractive index (RI). Different glass types (window, headlight, bottle) have different RIs.

Hair Analysis

Hair is identified by origin (human vs animal), color, texture, and structure. Synthetic fibers can resemble hair.

Ink Analysis

Different pen types (ballpoint, gel, fountain) and colors leave distinct ink patterns and compositions.
